THE RUGBY GAME.

MAORI MATCH. Per Press Association. PALMERSTON" NORTH, .Tune 23. From start to finish the .Maori match at the Show Grounds to-day afforded thrills aplenty to 3000 spectators. Fast, open and clean Rugby with passing- movements was the order of the dav. hut too frequently the defending sido left the fuII-back in the air. with the result that near!; a]l the tries were scored .'with apparently ridiculous ease. This was partieularly the. case with the southern side. The game was not only for the Te Mori Rose Bowl between the Northern and Southern Maori tendance*to make the final choice of tli-3 team to tour France and Britain. This, however, is not expected to be available till late this evening. Although the final score of 30 points to IT was in favour of North, the Southern representatives showed up bet--1 er than it indicates. Particularly was this so in the second spell, when had thev been as successful as North in goal-ki*-icing, the scores would have been very close. The teams took the field as selected, except that Dennis replaced Edwards in the Northern team, and the South side included Akuira, of Palmerston North, who was originally « hosen as Northern emergency, and Scott instead of Kingi, and Hartley, and at half-time Maihi replaced Pine. The Southerners were, hooking the ball persistently and Aknria kept liis hacks well fed with maobine-like passes, but solid tackling nullified the efforts. On the other hand, the blacks had the advantage in fine-outs. North had 13 points <*n before South had crossed, the half-time tally being: North IS. South 3. Rapid scoring in the opening of the second spell by the blacks brought the score to 30 before South had added all the remaining points. Tries were gained for North by Wineera (21, Dennis. Rika. Harrison, Peihana, Haupapa and Batty. Sergeant converted three. For South, trios were scored by Mannings. Matthew. Tatana and Falwasser (D. Jacob converted one. .
