PUBLIC TO BE MADE PAY FOR NEW WORKERS COMPENSATION ACT.

By Telegraph.— Press Assn. —Copyright. Aus. and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received June 23, 2 p.m.) SYDNEY, June 23. Employers generally consider that the new Workers’ Compensation Act will place a heavy burden upon industry. In practically every instance, it is considered that an increase in the cost of goods supplied or services rendered will be inevitable in order to meet the extra cost of insurance. This means an increase in the basic wage. The public will suffer in the long run. A notable development is the tendency of certain sections of the employers to form their own insurance companies. The Master Builders’ Association and the Retail Traders’ Association have already decided to do this. In each instance the operations of the companies will be confined to members of the organisations concerned. The Local Government Association has been asked to consider the formation of an insurance company for employees of municipalities and shires.
