MAYOR DEPRECATES USE OF INFLUENCE TO GET TENDER ACCEPTED.

Per Press Association. INYERCARGILL, June 23. The Town Council accepted a British tender at £3580 against Niven and Co.’s £3825 fdr a hot-mix plant. An amendment to- accept Niven’s tender was defeated by eight votes to three. The Mayor, Mr Bain, deprecated the action of Niven and Co. in using influence to induce the council to accept their tender. He was satisfied that the accepted plant would be a first-class one and could be erected in time to commence the work next season.
