SENIOR COMPETITION.

TROPHY FOR WINNER OF THIRD ROUND. The Management Committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union decided at its meeting last night that iri ordex - to create more interest in the third round of the senior A competition a trophy should be given for the team gaining most points in that round. This will not in any way affect the championship, the points gained in the third round counting towards the championship in the ordinary way. The proposal was made by Mr -S. F. Wilson, who said that such a trophy would help to maintain interest in the senior competition. Some of the teams which had not struck form early in the season were showing better form now and the trophy would be an inducement to them. The championship would not be affected in any way. The points in the third round would still count towards the championship. Mr R. H. North suggested that as the third round would end on the last Saturday in July, a knock-out competition for a special trophy should bo played between the four leading teams in August. Mr Wilson said that the Payne Trophy match was to be played on August 28, and another Saturday in August would have to be set aside for the Town v. Country game. This would leave only two Saturdays in August and there might be postponements of competition games owing to wet weather. It was decided, on the motion of Mr Wilson, that a trophy should be given for the winner of the third round, the details to be left in the hands of the Finance Committee.
