MR ARMSTRONG NURSES TRAMWAY BOARD BILL.
The Christchurch Tramway Board met yesterday; present—Mr W. J. Walter (chairman), the Hon J. Barr, M.L.C., Messrs D. Sykes, H. Pearce, J. Wood, A. S. Taylor, J. A. Flesher and G. T. Booth. The Works and Traffic Committee reSorted that Mr H. T. Armstrong 1 . M.P., ad consented to take charge of the board’s Amendment BUI in the House of Representatives, and that other members would be asked for their assistance. The committee had authorised the purchase of fifteen air compressors for electric cars at a cost of £124 each, to replace those worn out. The cost of this replacement would he a charge on the depreciation fund. An inquiry had been made by a member of the Domains Board as to what, the Tramway Board's attitude would be respecting a proposal to widen Riccarton Road between the parks. The committee had decided that it would bear the expense of removing the poles to a new position, approximately £IOO. The City Council wrote acknowledging receipt of a letter stating that the Works and Traffic Committee had rescinded the resolution of- April 28 recommending the board to lay a new track on the south side of Healey AveThe North Linwood Burgesses’ Association wrote thanking the board for their action in Instituting a twentyminute service on the Dallington route, and stating that it would be much appreciated by the residents of that district. Motorman S. F. Scott, who retires this month after twenty-one years’ service, wrote expressing appreciation of the Just treatment he had received while in the employ of the board.
