I “ Telephones arc too hand}'. The ranger cannot do any good at all.” Thus a councillor at the Waitotara (Wanganui) County Council’s meeting recently. It was stated that the telephone allowed settlers to warn others of the approach of the ranger. The chairman (Councillor W. Morrison) said that some of the settlers thought that, in consideration of payment of their rates, they were entitled to free grazing. The engineer (Mr T. Dix) said that the best time to catch wandering stock was at night.
