SUNDAY CONCERTS.

A concert in aid of the unemployment funds was given by the Woolston Band yesterday afternoon in an impro-. vised stand on the new bandstand in the public gardens. The band gave their services free. There was a large attendance of the public, and a collection taken up at the gates realised £4l 4s 6d. This amount, if subsidised by the City Council,, will provide a week’s work for tweifty married men with one hundred dependents. The Christchurch Returned Soldiers’ Association held a very successful concert in the Liberty Theatre last evening. The programme was arranged by Miss Marion Woodhouse- The theatre was well filled and the collection at the doors was a Very, satisfactory one. It is the intention of the committee to hold a concert every Sunday night for the purpose of affording relief to unemployed returned men.
