KEEPING PACE WITH THE FASHION.

The newest shade for stockings is a deep pink fawn colour, while the most fashionable walking shoes are a particular shade of grey, which has a good deal of pink in it. Later on in the year, when seaside fashions have to be considered, everyone will be wearing coloured linen sandals. Oblong handbags of soft morocco are one of the latest crazes. These arc coloured in bright spring colours true to the flower which the design favours. Pochettes are still holding their own, and becoming more decorative than ever. They now possess striking enamelled plaques, or have their owner’s monogram done in gay colours. The lightest and silkiest materials are called into duty to make my lady’s lingeries /or spring. Stockinette in pastel shades, and lawn ol : the finest texture is universally favoured, and nearly all the garments they arc chosen to fashion boast the indispensable pleats and decorative tucks. Delicate embroidery is seen on the daintiest white garment, while those of coloured material are often embellished with ecru lace motifs. The newest idea is to have the coat of your two-piece made in sleeveless style, so that the sleeves of the frock look as if they belonged to the coat. Vivid embroideries trim many of the latest coats, and the most fashionable short coats arc made of kid and are lined with fur, while; fur collars and cuffs are often replaced by'ones, of soft clipped wool. Jewelled fobs are worn on the shoulders of evening gowns, and are considered n fewer than shoulder posies, while there is also rather a vogue for waist girdles of imitation stones. The single choker necklace is definitely out of date, and in its place you wear two

or three rather close-fitting but very I slender necklaces of imitation pearls lor diamonds. Crystal necklaces are fashionable, too, and if you wear them in the daj'time you must have a crystal lob hanging from the pocket of your dress to match. White evening dresses are in fashion again, and the loveliest are made of white chiffon generously embroidered in crystal and pearls, while colour may be introduced by means of a. georgette or satin sash swathed at the normal waistline. White crepe de chine frocks, narrowly piped with red, had a great success on the Riviera, and it was on the Riviera, too. that white shoes were brought into favour again this season, which probably means that they will be fashionable over here in the summer. Although the tammv-shaped hats are so popular, they are not becoming to everyone, so the dress designers have ! } obligingly created some other shapes I and styles which promise to be equalJ ly fashionable. Swathed turbans are to { be.worn a good deal, and so are hel-met-shaped hats, which are sometimes made with a winged effect at either side. Bangkok straw is to repeat its success of last year, and embroidered crepe de chine and georgette are both going to be used for making summer millinery.
