JACK FROST HOLDS CITY IN CHILLY EMBRACE.
LAST NIGHT 14 DEG. WERE REGISTERED. Christchurch wrapped itseif in furs and mufflers this morning, and stalked abroad with chattering teeth. It was the coldest day this winter. Jack Frost's icy fingers left tell-tale finger-prints on the window panes, and he shed a gossamer gown of white over the city, a mystic gown which disappeared slowly with the coming of the sunbeams. Mr H. F. Skey, officer in charge, of the Christchurch Meteorological Observatory, says that last night's frost reached only 14 degrees, despite the assertions of a thousand and one other self-appointed weather men who confidently declare that the Observatory glass must have been left iii front of the office fire. Last year Jaick Frost paid many calls, but his chilly visiting card was never colder than the one he left last night Following is a table showing his best performances to date this year:
