A “NEW ZEALAND” HOCKEY CUP FOR INDIAN ARMY.

To “Onlooker.’ 1 ' Sir, —The very great interest being taken in the hockey matches being played in New Zealand by the Indian Army Hockey team, as evidenced bv the large attendances at North Island games, leads us to suppose that the result of the tour will not only be a financial success but will result in the N.Z.H.A. reaping a substantially large sum over and above all expenses. As the Indian Army team will not bo in New Zealand for very much longer now. we suggest that' the N.Z.H.A. would suitably indicate the appreciation of all New Zealanders of the sportsmanship that caused this team to journey out to this far Dominion by donating a cup, to be known as the “New Zealand Cup” and to be competed for and awarded annually to the champion hockey team in the Indian Army. If this could be done—and the cup presented to the Indian Army team before it leaves these shores, to carry it back with them to In'dia—it would not only serve the object already mentioned above, but would prove an excellent .standing advertisement of New Zealand. The British Army in India already has a very fine hockey trophy in the shape of the Murree Brewery Cup, which has been competed for annually at Murree, on the North-West Frontier, for over twenty-five years, by teams from British There is, we understand, no similar trophy for purely Indian Army Hockey teams. —We are, etc., TWO ANGLO-INDIANS.
