GIRL, 19, DECEIVES MANY CRITICS.
CENTURIES-OLD DIARY WAS WRITTED BY VERY MODERN MISS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Aus. and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received June 4. 11.15 am.) LONDON. June 3. One of the sensations of the publishing season is the “Dairy of a Young Lady of Fashion. 1764455." of which 30.000 copies have been sold in three months. It was purported to be an authentic historical account and deceived many critics, including Lord l'Jarling. who expressed the opinion that the “Diary takes a place besides Pepys.” It is now revealed that the book was written by Magdalen King-Hall, 19 years-old daughter of the former Com-mander-in-Chief of the Australian Squadron. The revelation is the more piquant because the book included a description of a lover's attempt to climb to a girl’s bedroom at night and other naughty episodes which a girl just from school is not supposed to be familiar with. Miss King-Hall says that she wrote the book to escape boredom and adds that she has already made a considerable sum of money from the book. “I have had a ‘bust,’ but the family are making me invest the rest.’’
