BRIGHT WEATHER FOR HOLIDAY.
MANY EXCURSIONISTS TAKE TRIP TO OTIRA. The weather for to-day’s holiday was almost perfect. The air was somewhat sharp, but there was ample sunshine, and the blue skies were merely flecked with clouds. The Canterbury Park Trotting Club’s races at Addington, the principal attraction, were well attended. Except for private outings, mostly in motor-cars, the only excursion into the country was a trip to Otira, arranged by the Railway Department. About 360 passengers left by the excursion train this morning, and others were picked up en route. The weather at Otira was reported to be fine. Among other fixtures were the Canterbury v. Wellington Rugby match at Lancaster Park. St Bede’s Old Boys’ match. League Rugby seven-a-side tournament, the Canterbury v. South Canterbury Soccer match at English Park. MX-a-side Soccer matches at Ilagley Park, women’s hockey five-a-side tournrnent at Ilagley Park, golf competitions. the Mid-Canterbury shooting championships and the Christchurch Poultry Club’s big show in the King Edward Barracks.
