WOOLSTON BAND HAS SUCCESSFUL YEAR.
The annual meeting of the TYoolston Band was held last night in the Band I-lall, Mr 11. B. Owen presiding over a good attendance. The annual report for the thirty-fifth ' year of the hand's existence stated that it had turned out on fifty-five occasions during the year. Twenty performances i had been given gratuitously. Eleven ' i Sunday evening concerts had been given , in Victoria Square, the collections averj aging £l4. Out of nine municipal con- - • certs allotted to the band, eight, had ! been fulfilled, and during the winter ! I three concerts bad been «given in aid . of the unemployed fund. The band’s I assets were in good condition. The roll of active members stood at 33, and the • attendance as practices had been uni- i form 1 y good. Six new members had been enrolled. There was every reason to j look forward to a record year. i The report was adopted. A .motion was carried, expressing np- ! predation of the work of the. patron, >. president and untiring helpers,/who had j at all times assisted in raising funds. A very satisfactory position was dis- , closed by the balan<-e-sheet. The band’s (.•ash balance had increased during the year and had now reached a substantial ! The balance-sheet was adopted. Mr W. Larcombe said the conductor i had been responsible for the band winning about £I4OO. Supporters were increasing in numbers, and the public conl tributions were increasingly generous. Mr TV. V. ed by the attendances at concerts that the public of Christchurch had been musically educated. “We owe much to the work, of many earnest • men over a period of year, especially that of Mr Sidida 11. our former conductor,*’ said Mr , Kstall. Tt was hardly the correct thing ! to single out individuals, however, as prominent members had been unselfish, | while members had never shirked the responsibility of cleaning- out undesirj able elements. ) The following officers were elected j for the ensuing year:—Patron, Mr C. M. Ollivier; president. Mr R. B. Owen: conductor, Mr R. J. Estall: bandmaster, Mr T. H. Hughes: band sergeant, Mr C. S. Hansen: corporal, air C. Bowden; lancecorporal. air E. X. Trenberth: secretarytreasurer, .Mr E. Round: custodian, Mr berth; committee, Messrs T. Hughes, F. Rose. T. Carroll, C. Pollock, A. Hughes. S. Morrish, K. X. Trenberth: auditors. Messrs T. Hopkins and TV. F. Steere; vice-presidents, last year's re-elected, with the addition of Messrs TV. Rose, R. ; TMxon. C. TVelsford, TV. J. Hughes. if. j Edmonds, P. Munns and A. L. Cropp.
