CHRISTCHURCH SCHOOL NEEDS ARE PLACED BEFORE MINISTER

(Special to the “Star.”) WELLINGTON, June 2. A number of matters connected with Christchurch schools were submitted to the Minister of Education, the Hon R. A. Wright, by the member for Avon, Mr D. G. Sullivan, to-day. Dr Marsaen, Assistant-Director of Education, and Mr W. S. La Trobe, head of the Technical Education branch, were present. Representations which had been made to Canterbury members by the Christchurch Technical College Board of Governors were conveyed to the Minister with reference to the necessity for another technical school, also provision for boys’ and girls’ hostels. Mr Sullivan asked the Minister to favourably consider building a caretaker’s cottage at Lin wood School, the immediate extension of the infant department at North New Brighton School, the extension of the infants’ department at PhiHipstown, and a new building or remodelling of the Bromley School. It was suggested to the Minister;, in connection with the proposed acquisition of the present Richmond playground by the city, that the Department might extend the same generous terms as it had been prepared to give when it was prepared to dispose of the section to the city prior to the recent poll. The Minister undertook to consider the request in conjunction with his advisers.
