MINIATURE RIFLE SHOOTING.
CHAMPIONSHIP ENTRIES. It is expected that 300 competitors (including 40 teams) will take part in the mid-Canterbury miniature rifle championship competitions, which will be held in Ashburton to-morrow. The principal events are the champion teams’ match, open to club teams of five men; and the Ashburton match, open to individual competitors whether members of clubs or not. The first prize for the teams’ match will be the New Zealand Challenge Shield and five miniature cups, while the second and third prizes will each be five miniature cups. For the individual shoot there is a longlist of prize money. Competitors in the two matches will be eligible to have their scores recorded in the mid-Canter-bury grand aggregate individual championship, but competitors not shooting in the teams’ match may enter for the aggregate, and will be allowed to snoot for that purpose. An innovation m connection with tne targets will be tbe use of the centre bull as a sighting shot, and not to count in the score. Two shots only on each of the outer bull’s-eyes will count in the score.
