A picture adapted from a book by Harold Bell Wright takes pride of place at the Grand Theatre this week, “ The Mine With the Iron Door,” in which Pat O'Malley, Dorothy Mackaill and Raymond Ilatton head the cast. The locale is the Catalina Mountains in Arizona, about which range strange stories are legion. Thither many men have come, Spaniards, Indians, cattlemen, prospectors, adventurers of all types, all seeking the great lost mine, with its fabulous wealth in raw gold. Even to day men talk about that El Dorado, and it has remained for Wright to make one of his stirring romances around the enticing theme. Elaborating upon the story given him by the natives, he has succeeded in giving the world one of the most compelling dramas of Spanish gold and American love ever written, set amidst wilej and beautiful country, acted with the exact spirit of the interesting tale by the actors, and presented with geographical and legendary accuracy. Although the greater part of the story is now but legend, there is a convincing air about it, the result of Wright’s master touch. The popular Pat O’Malley does the best work of his career in this picture, and Dorothy Mackaill is equally impressive. The supporting cast is strong. The second attraction is a story of Alaska, and which comes before the public very opportunely. Its title, “ The Chechakos,” translates “ newcomer,” a term designed to differentiate them from the pioneers.
