SYDENHAM HOUSE DAMAGED BY FIRE.
At 6.15 p.m. yesterday fire broke out in the washhouse of the residence of Mrs Duggan, corner of King and Croydon Streets, Sydenham. It destroyed the washhouse and other property before it could be suppressed. A street box alarm was sent to the headquarters fire station and an engine from there and one from the Sydenham station responded. The fire had a good hold when the brigade arrived, but they made a good save. The washhouse was destroyed and the wall and ceiling of one bedroom and the wall and ceiling of the bathroom were damaged. The house was insured for £450 in the State Office and the furniture for £l5O in the Alliance Office.
