PURSUERS ELUDED AFTER TWO HOURS

BURGLARS CHASED OVER HOUSE ROOFS.

(Special to the “Star.”) LONDON, April 5.

Burglars who climbed roofs and entered two houses in the West End, kept up a hide-and-seek chase for twe hours with their police pursuers, whom they eventually eluded.

The intruders apparently gained en trance to the second floor flat occupied by Mr. J. ('. Bell, a dentist, at No. 130, Wigmore Street, by a ladder left by workmen at the back of the premises in Seymour-mews. They tvere in the flat when Mr. Bell returned, and left hurriedly by the window through which they had entered, taking only an attache case containing papers of little

A constable who was passing heard the burglars on the roof, and, after blowing his whistle, he climbed the ladder and gave chase. Finding their escape cut off, the burglars ran along the flat roof, climbed a cistern, and entered No. 128 through a window, ran downstairs and out by the back door. Here they found themselves in a light well, surrounded by 12ft. high walls, but it is thought that they climbed on to some adjoining garages, clambered along the sloping roof, jumped 20ft. to the ground, and escaped. Twenty policemen had surrounded the block of buildings, while others had joined in the search over the roofs.
