PROGRESS MADE WITH SELWYN PLANTATIONS WORK.

BOARD HOLDS MONTHLY MEETING. The Selwyri Plantation Board met today; present—Messrs W. Stewart (chairman), G. Hall, C. Adams, C. Wolfe. S. A. Staples, R. Nairn, F. G. Horrell and the Hon G. Witty, M.L-C. “ At Turnbtill’s Reserve, near Rolleston, five men are engaged in effecting the clea*.nce of the small timber and making provision for the spring planting of the block.” stated the superintendent. Mr R. G. Robinson, in his report. About 335 cords of firewood were now stacked, and a fair proportion of this was moderately dry. Some thirty-five cords of gum were also cut at Joblin’s plantatioh. About forty-five cords of timber were put on rail for the city. Milling was being steadily carried on at Barfield pine plantation. A good deal of clearance work still remained to be attended to at the recently exploited area near Racecourse Hill and in all probability the contractor would be required to put on an additional waggon. Some fifty chains of divisional fence at Racecourse Hill had been constructed, while necessary repairs had been effected to fences in the locality. A tractor and three-furrow plough bad been purchased, and a start bad been made with fire-break ploughing in the Dunsandel district. Slight injury to seedings had been caused by a recent frost and the hardening off of the late-sown pines was going to be a more difficult matter this year. All preliminary work in connection with planting at the various reserves earmarked for this purpose was fairly well forward. The report was adopted. Applications for trees were received from:—Riccarton Domain Board, 200 macroca.rpa; Wnimakariri River Trust, 25,000 pinus insignis; Paparua County 'Council, 2000 pinus insignis; Tawera County Council. 4000 pinus insignis and 3 0.000 oregon; Public Works Department, fiOQO assorted; Springs County Council, 4000 pinus insignis (two-year-old). All the applications were' granted.
