MINISTERIAL. The Prime Minister (the Right Hon J. G. Coates' left Wellington for the Waimarino district last night. Later he will go on to Auckland, and will afterwards proceed to his own electorate of Kaipara. Mr Coates will be absent from Wellington until June 7.
The lion. G. J. Anderson (Minister of Mines), will leave Wellington for the south to-night. At Wyndham he will unveil a memorial to the late Dr Menzies. a former member of the House of Representatives.
Sir John Ilosking arrived from the north yesterday.
Archbishop Redwood is a passenger by the Makura, which left Sydney for Wellington on Saturdr- afternoon
The Hon D. Buddo. M.P., returned to Christchurch from Wellington yesterday morning. Mr \ T. Drew, secretary of the Dunedin .M.C.A.. has been transferred to Auckland.
Mr W. D. Hunt, who is leaving New Zealand shortly on a trip to the United States, will be entertained at luncheon by the New Zealand Alliance in Wellington to-day.
Mr W. G. de Gruchv, manager of the Wellington branch of the C. and D. Line, accompanied by Mrs dc Gruchv, left Wellington on ' Saturday by the Pert Hobart on a visit to England. Mr and Mrs 111. Modsdy are staying at the Rothcrfield Hotel.’ Mr Modsdy was the Queensland Government representative at the Wembley Exhibition and also at the Dunedin Exhibition. lie is spending a few days in Christchurch on his way. home.
The death has ocurred of Mr J. A. Tripe, a well-known Wellington solicitor, aged sixty-seven. Formerly ho was a member of the firm of Tripe and Young and recently a member of the firm of Tripe. Maule and Herd. lie married a daughter of the lion E. Richardson, an ex-Minister of Public Works.
Mr Harry Slatter. after a long illness. passed away at the Christchurch Hospital last week at the age ot 54. Mr Slatter was a keen supporter of Rugby Football, aiid followers of the junior flag competition in the early nineties will remember him when he played sterling games against Linwood, Kaiapoi and North Canterbury as halfback for the Cambridge Football Club
before they entered the senior competition. lie was always a favourite with his club mates, fellow-workers, and all those he came in contact with, lie leaves a wife and grown-up family.
