ALCOHOL NOT VEGETABLE.

To the Editor. Sir, —Your humorous correspondent “ Chestertonian Vegetarian ” has fol-io-wed the great G.K-C. into a rather funny error. Alcohol is realty an animal product, and should therefore be excluded from the diet of any real vegetarian. Alcohol cannot be made by a chemist. It requires the services of a living organism. This small creature lives upon the sugar in the juice of the grape, barley, etc., and produces i the alcohol—which is its excreta! A true vegetarian would naturally avoid such an animal product!—l am, etc., JAMES R. DEVEREUX.
