THE BOXING RING.
N.Z. FIGHTERS ABROAD. Two New Zealand boxers, Tom Ileeny, heavy-weight, and K. W. Scott, light-weight, have made appearances in England recently. Ilecney boxed first in England in 1924, but he was not successful. Since then he has spent 12 months in South Africa, and he has returned with more confidence in himself, and hoping to put up a fight for the'championship of England. He met Squires at Johannesburg, and beat him on points. He met him again at. Capetown; and beat him in the eigh-
teenth round. Miller went from Australia to fight ITeeney, and they met at Johannesburg, where the New Zealander won on a foul in the eighth round. The second time they* met at Durban, where Ileeney had the misfortune to lose in the fifth round, because his second jumped into the ring before Ins time was called. It is ITeeney’s ambition to meet Scott, the English heavy-weight, and to dispute with him the championship uf England. Last month the New Zealander received the decision over C. Smith, of Deptford, who was disqualified for holding in the sixth round. E. W. Scott, formerly of Wellington, has not had the best of health abroad. In a bout with Van Dyk, the Duten official light-weight champion, Scott lost through the referee stopping the , contest at the end of the eighth round. ; Scott protested very* strongly against this decision, but the referee remained 1 In some, of the English sporting papers it. has been stated that Scott lodged £SOO as security for a match for the Empire championship with the champion of England. ITarry Mason. The first intimation that Scott had about it was when he saw the announcement on a bill board.
