LADY HOUSTON NOT CAPABLE.
CANNOT LOOK AFTER HERSELF OR FORTUNE.
By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Aus. and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received May 3, 10.30 p.m.) LONDON, May 2. Lady Houston has been declared mentally and physically incapable of taking care of herself or of her fortune, the Court appointing a curator. It is understood that her husband left her two-thirds of his estate, with an immediate payment of £IOO,OOO and a palatial yacht.
Messsages last week said:—Sir Rob* prt Houston, the shipowner, who left £7,000,000, made his will in . Jersey, where, it is claimed, is his domicile. This is likely to prove a heavy blow to the British Exchequer, as no death duties are levied in the Jersey Islands. The newspaper “Sketch” says that the highest legal authority states that Jersey domicile protects the Houston estate from death duties, which are estimated to amount to £3.000,000. The "Daily Mail” states that the Treasury will probably bring a test case in order to secure a ruling regarding Channel Islands domicile.
