MOST SENSIBLE STYLE FOR WINTER WEATHER.
Russian boots are likely to take on in Christchurch this winter in the opinion of certain retailers. The new type
of footwear has made its appearance on the streets, while- inquiries from prospective customers are reported in the shops. “ Despite numerous quips and jokes, I believe they will be worn extensively,” said one manager for a city shop. Acording to a trade circular sent to a Christchurch firm, “ at present about 40 per cent, of the ladies in London are wearing these boots." 'That was sent under date February 1). A firm of manufacturers wrote“ There appear to be good reasons for predicting that the Russian will enter the realm of fashion this season. ... . Tt must be borne in mind that the Russian boot is not a substitute, but rather an addition to footwear requirements. It is also essentially a utility boot—indeed the most sensible introduction! made in recent years to meet bad weather conditions.” The head of a leading drapery establishment believes that the Russian boot will be a good deal in vogue. “ They are going to take on all right,” he concluded confidently.
