ST ALBANS SCHOOL. The annual meeting of householders

last Monday was very largely attend l ed, a fact that must be very! gratifying to those residents who have been urging greater interest in school affairs. The voting for the committee resulted in a tie for the ninth committeeman, the chairman giving his casting vote in favour of a member of the previous committee. Mr J. C. Falkinder is the only new committeeman. At the subsequent meeting of the committee Mr G. Sey was appointed chairman, Mr Brierley secretary, and Mr I*. Jowett treasurer. SHIRLEY SCHOOL. The annual meeting of householders did not arouse a great amount of interest, as no election for the committee was necessary, there being only nine nominations. Mr S. 11. Clothier is the only new committeeman. At the meeting of the committee Mr C. S. Thompson was appointed chairman, Mrs M'Kav secretary, and Mr C. E. Hunt treasurer.

ST ALBANS RECREATION CLUB. The adjourned annual meeting was

held last Monday. The following committee were appointed:—J. Green, L. Gapes, R. Cockayne, A. \\ hitworth, R. Winter, S. Dawkins, and L. Mahan: delegate to the A.C.P.A., ’Sir C. Franklin; auditors, Messrs H. E. Powell and M. Chappie. Mr P. Winter was appointed a life member of the club. ST STEPHEN’S CHURCH. The Shirley district will be favoured with a visit from the new Bishop of Christchurch. The Bishop will preach at St Stephen's on Sunday morning. The last meeting of the Girls’ Friendly Society was very largely attended, Sir Ilasell being in charge. It was decided to organise a series of social evenings and dances during the winter. ST ALBANS EUCHRE ASSEMBLY. There was the usual large attendance at the Winton Street Hall last Tuesday for the Euchre Assembly, Mr Chinnerv gaining the special prize for the best card. The following were the. other prize winners:—Mesdames Tindall. Johns, Dowling, Lanship, I ladcock and Snooks. Messrs Ilenney, Graham, Hudson, Watters, Lanship, and Brown.

ST MATTHEW’S, ST ALBANS. On Thursday afternoon a small sale of work was held in the schoolroom, and in the evening a Dutch auction, when goods went cheaply. The total takings amounted to £3B. Air J. Snell, 8.A., Dominion secretary of the Church of England Men’s Society, will preach in St Matthew’s Church next Sunday morning. PERSONAL. Mr T. Blain, teacher of the Sixth Standard of St Albans School, is laid up with pleurisy. Miss G. Skogland, of Edward Avenue, is at present visiting Dunedin. Mr R. Norrie, a prominent member, of the St Albans Association Football Club, who represented Canterbury in intcr-provincial matches last year, is now playing Rugby Union for the Merivale senior team. The St Albans School Committee, at its meeting passed a motion of sympathy to Mr 11. English, acting head master, who recently lost his < wife. Mr IT. C. Wilson is at present on a visit to Dunedin, JOTTINGS. The Shirley School householders are again urging the widening of the bridge at the junction of Hills Road and Shirley Road. This bridge "was to.be widened when the proposed tram extension from Warrington Street to the tram was completed; but as no extension is to take place, and serious accidents have occurred recently at the locality, strong representation is required to urge the early completion of this very important work. Pupils of St Albans School gave a wreath, which was displayed in front of the Cathedral on Anzac Day. This custom is an annual one by the pupils. EDGEWARE ROAD METHODIST CHURCH. Affairs, in connection with the Edgeware Road Church Queen Carnival are going on well. Another pleasant and enjoyable evening was spent at the home of Mr and Mrs L. Philpott, 119, Slater Street, in support of the church candidate, Nancy Ford, the net result being about £4. About fiftypeople took part in the various games, and competitions. Supper was provided by the hostess. ST ALBANS RECIIABITE TENT. On Wednesday, Brother C. E. Wright presided at the fortnightly meeting. A ■letter of recommendation was- granted to Brother Bryant, who is visiting England. An interesting discussion took place on the relationship of Friendly Society members to the National Provident Fund, the matter being referred to the Provincial Council for consideration. Brother H. G. Lisbert was appointed to the position of Levite. Members were reminded of the fraternal visit to be paid to the Oddfellows' Lodge on Monda3', May 3.
