BAREHEADED VETERAN MADE TO RE-COVER.

LONDON, March 12. The King received an enthusiastic welcome' yesterday at Chatham, when he visited the borough to inspect the war memorial to officers and men of the of London ” at Westminster School yesThousands of school children lined the be-fiagged streets, a massed choir of boys and girls singing "Land of Hope ! and Glory ” as the King passed one prominent point. After the visit to the Memorial—where he was received by the ColonelCommandant of the Corps, the 84-year old veteran, Sir Bindon Blood—and the parade, which concluded with a march past, the King received a number of specially invited guests. These included Colonel Hill, a retired Engineer offi cer, who is in his 85th year. The Colonel, who looked rather frail, removed his silk hat when the King addressed him, but a cold wind was blowing, and he was smilingly commanded to resume his hat. This fine old veteran is the only survivor of the officers of the. Guard of Honour which received Queen Alexandra when she landed on British shores for her marriage in March. 1863.
