Mr and Mrs Frank Jones have returned to Christchurch from Dunedin. Mrs M’Donald and Miss F- M’Donald, Prebbleton, are visiting the Exhibition. Mr and Mrs James Smith and Mr and Mrs W. Downey left on Wednesday on a motor trip to Dunedin.

Among the guests at Warner’s Hotel are Mrs J. Falloona (Rotorua), Miss Bathgate and Mrs Chaffey (Waiau).

Mrs Harold Richards, Windwhistle, Sheffield, is staying in Christchurch, and is registered at Warner’s Hotel. Mr and Mrs S. Barker, Bournemouth, England, are overseas visitors staying at the United Service Hotel. Recent visitors to Dunedin Exhibition who returned during the week include Mr J. W. Kingan and Mr and Mrs J. M’lntosh, of Prebbleton. Mr and Mrs E. M’lntyre and Miss Pcggv M’lntyre, Leeston, left yesterday on a visit to the Dunedin Exhibition and Wyndham.

The Bishop of Christchurch, the Right Rev C. West-Watson, and Mrs WestWatson will return to Christchurch this evening from Dunedin. Mr and Mrs 11. T. Mellish, Hereford Street, have left Christchurch en route to England and the Continent. They expect to lx> absent from New Zealand for some months. Mrs J. Ladd (Adelaide). Miss M'Martin (Adelaide), Miss O. J. Sharp (Syd* ney). Miss W. R. Sharp (Sydney) and Mr and Mrs A. G. Washer are staying at the Clarendon Hotel.

The Christchurch Nursing Division of the St John Ambulance Brigade held a meeting recently, Mrs Bishop presiding over a good attendance. Dr Beveridge Davis gavo an interesting and instructive lecture on “ Rashes,'’ for which he was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. On Monday the evening was devoted to bed-making, roller bandaging and first aid tests. There was a good attendance of members. Mrs Bishop presided. The North Linwood Burgesses held a poster carnival and euchre and dance in the North Linwood School on Saturday evening last. There was a large attendance. The music for the dancing was supplied by Mr S. Whitworth’s orchestra. Mr H. Deihl was M.C. A dainty supper was suplied by the ladies' committee. The euchre prizes were won by the following ladies:— Miss M. Nankivell 1, Mrs Townsend 2. consolation. Mrs J. A. Clarke. Mep, Mr Iloare 1, Mr Miller 2; consolation, Mr Ozanne.

Miss Dtilcic Henry, who was married at Rangiora last week, was the recipient of a large collection of useful gifts when a kitchen evening was given in her honour in St John’s schoolroom, Rangiora. A happy time was spent by those present with dancing and musical items. Mr B. F. Hunter thanked the donors of the gifts on behalf of Miss Henry. Miss Henry was also the guest of honour at a china evening given hv Miss T. E. Loffhagcn in the Roval ten Rooms. The bride-to-be rereived a varied assortment of appropriate articles in addition to the felicitations of those present.

The members and friends of the Christchurch Womens’ Christian Temperance Union held a very enjoyable social on Wednesday evening in their rooms, 217, Manchester Street, in honour and appreciation of three of their retiring officer*- Mrs T. E. Taylor, president, Miss Bishop, secretary, and Miss M. B. Lovell-Smith, treasurer. Miss Henderson, president, in words of love and appreciation, presented Mrs Taylor, on behalf of the union, with a gold and pearl badge and handbag. regretting that she had been obliged to vacate the office ns president of the. Christchurch Union, but all felt honoured and proud that she had been elected president of the National Union. Miss Henderson then presented handbags to Miss Bishop and Miss Lovell-Smith, both of whom had served the union faithfully and well for many years. After words of thanks from the. recipients, Miss Lovell Smith presented Miss Gordon, on behalf of the union, with a handbag as a small token of her great work and interest in the union, being a member since its foun elation bj Ml * 1 «w\ e-it in 188 ft. During the evening musical items and songs were rendered V»v Miss Stephens, Miss Millieent Jennings, Mrs Falk and reci. tat ions and monologues by Miss ltrewins. Supper was served by the Social Committee and four members initiated. The singing of the "Temper ame Doxology" brought a pleasant evening to a close.
