The 5.22 p.m. tram from the Square to New Brighton was making an. express trip, the first stop being at Sandilands. _ It was in charge of MotormaTl Tilleyshort, an experienced tramwayman. According to a tramways report, the motorman as he approached the Linwood Cemetery in Buckley’s Road, noticed two cyclists travelling in the same direction as the tram, and on their correct side of the road. When he was within a few feet of them one turned to the right, in front of the tram. He was knocked over, but the man and bicycle were picked up by the lifeguard. The motorman made a good stop. Early was taken from beneath the car, and it was obvious that his condition was very grave. He was taken to the hospital at once, but on the way there expired.
