WARNING PICTURE FOR MOTORISTS.

VIVID CHROMO ISSUED WITH NUMBER PLATES. Motor-car owners who are engaged at the present time in re-licensing their cars with the Government receive, after the necessary formalities have been complied with, their new black and white number plates. That is not all. They also receive a neat little picture, about two and a half inches by two inches in size, the purpose of which is to convey a warning about level crossings. In the background is an expanse of bright yellow sky, cut off at the sides by green hills. In the foreground is a blue railway engine, going over a level crossing at considerable speed. llllllllllllllllllllllllllllllillllllllllllllillllll there are two motor-cars, one red and the other blue. The red car has evidently just been struck by the engine. It is in the air, the front wheels resting against the drawbar of the engine. Its occupants, all at the same angle, are falling out. Meanwhile the blue car has come to a halt on the other side of the line, and its passengers are all standing up with their hands out. Whether they are invoking a blessing on the engine-driver, or are denouncing him, is a matter of conjecture. Finally, the “Stop. Look out for the engine,” and “Level crossing” signs, are prominent in the picture. The picture has green gum on the back. Presumably the proud owner *is expected to stick it up on his garage wall, or wind-screen, or something. Then he will see it every time he takes the car out, and its gruesome warning" will weigh on his mind, and he will refuse to drive over level crossings. It is a good idea.
