POSTAL OFFICER COMMITS THEFT.

JUDGE RULES OUT PLEA OF GOOD RECORD. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND. April 28. At the Supreme Court, Mr Justice Herman dealt with the case in which two postal officials were charged with theft in their capacity as officers of a Government Department. In the case of Charles Joseph Hugh Curry, who had admitted nine charges of theft, the accused's good official record previously was urged by counsel. The Judge said that the accused had held a position of trust, and had committed thefts on nine occasions. He would be detained for reformative treatment for twelve months. John William Robert Gussy admitted seven charges of theft as a postal official. while temporarily employed at Porotarao. The accused, who had two previous convicitions, was sentenced to twelve months’ hard labour.
