INDIAN HOCKEY TEAM CARRIES OWN COOK.

MEN SHOULD BE TREATED AS GENTLEMEN. The Indian Army lie-key team will have its own cook while it is making- the New Zealand tour. At last night's meeting of the Management Committee of the New Zealand Hockey Association, a letter from the secretary of the Indian Army ►Sports Board of Control was read. The letter stated that there was a certain amount of anxiety nbout the food of the Indian ranks while in New Zealand. Arrangements had been made for the voyage, and a Hindu cook was being sent, so that there would he no trouble. The chief food of the team was as follows:—Phal (pulse). Soz a day; atta (<-oarse flour). r*lb a day; ghi (butter), 2oz; and gliur (sugar), 2o#. No real difficulty was anticipated, but it was thought that their play and health would suffer if they did not get the food to which they were accustomed. Atta could he obtained in New Zeqland; dahl would be sent, and all would eat ordinary butter and sugar instead of ghi anu ghur. “ INHERENT GENTLEMEN." A circular letter has been sent out by the association to the associations under its control stating that it was mos desirable that officials and players should be acquainted with the fact that the Sikhs are high caste natives and inherent gentlemen. One of their

chief characteristics was self-respect and dignity. They did not understand familiarity as only inferior caste 3 presumed upon 'it. The British hold India by prestige as much as anything else, therefore the responsibility taken by the association must be- shared by all associations who controlled matches.
