ABDUCTED GIRL AGED ELEVEN.

COUPLE SLEEP THREE NIGHTS IN SCRUB. Fer Press Association. TAIHAPE, April 27. At the Police Court to-day Clarence Amos Woods was charged with the abduction from her home of a girl of eleven years and nine months. The girl gave evidence reluctantly, weeping bitterly. She said accused took her away at her request. She, in company with accused, rode away on the Napier-Taihape Road, both riding the same horse, he' carrying a swag and she a portmanteau. They travelled for three days and nights, sleeping in the scrub. It was accused’s intention to take her to Napier and thence send her to Auckland to a sister. Accused cut witness’s hair off with a pocket knife to disguise her. Accused treated her well, and did her no harm. The police evidence disclosed that after a search of two days and two nights, the accused and the girl were discovered asleep in some scrub, 55 miles from Taihape. The girl was found to be in a dilapidated state, dirty and without stockings. Accused admitted, when arrested, taking the girl away, his intention being to send her to Auckland to her sister.

Accused had nothing to say, pleaded guilty and was committed for sentence to the Supreme Court.
