COUNCIL VOTES £75 TO WIREMEN’S BOARD.

At last night’s meeting of the City Council the Electricity Committee reported that it had placed on record its appreciation of the services rendered by the electrical wiremen’s board, and recommended that the fee of £25 for each of the three members of the board paid in previous years should be authorised for the vear ended March 31 last. Under the Wiremen’s Registration Act passed last session Dominion-wide registration of electrical wiremen is provided for under a board set up by the Government. Previously in Christchurch the issue of licenses to wiremen was in the hands of a board set. up bv the City Council. In the five years since it was constituted, the board has examined 559 candidates. Its licenses have been recognised by all other electric supply authorities in the Dominion and in some cases other electric supply authorities have stipulated that wiremen in their area must hold the licenses issued under the Christchurch by-law.
