THOUSANDS OF TONS OF SUGAR DESTROYED.

The £IOO,OOO mentioned in connection -with the Sugar Company’s fire represents damage to the buildings and machinery. Over and above this it is estimated that 17.000 tons of raw, and 700 tons of refined sugar, representing South Australia's supply for six months, and valued at £500,000, was destroyed. A tremendous fire broke out at the Glanville works of the Colonial Sugar Refining Company, where there was a stock of raw sugar amounting to 1 • ,000 tons. The damage to building and plant is estimated at £IOO,OOO.
