THEATRE AUDIENCES.
The actor’s audience, when he has one, is as much part of the performance as the player himself. If audiences only realised this they would ahvays be in receipt of double their money’s w*orth. For laughter and applause to the actor are w-hat the mountain stream is to the thirsty traveller or the smile of his lady to the gladiator in the arena. They are the driving force for renewed and exceptional effort. A dull gathering will more often than not keep the car of their theatreyon its first speed the journey long. It is the subconscious brake instead of being the conscious accelerator.—Mr Seymour Hicks, the eminent actor.
