ELECTRIC LIGHTING IN WAITOMO CAVES.
Per Press Association. WELLINGTON. January 28. The Hon W. Nosworthy, Minister of the Tourist Department, states that the work of wiring the main corridors and caverns of Waitomo, Ruakuri and Aranui Caves has been completed by the Public Works Department, and these are now electrically lighted by power supplied bv the Waitomo Power Board from the Ilora Ilora works. There is still much to be done in the way of effect lighting, shadow lighting, flood lights, etc., and this work is being proceeded with as fast as possible. The carrying: of lanterns by visitors and the illumination of the caves by magnes-ium-wire flares are therefore relics of the past. Everyone who has visited the 'jenolan Caves in New South Wales is | impressed with the ingenious use made there of electrical illumination. Jenolan was visited by Mr B. M. Wilson (general manager of Tourist and Health Resorts) before the decision to instal electric light at Waitomo Caves was made.
