“ SCARAMOUCHE.”

GREATER CRYSTAL PALACE. GREAT SABATINI STORY COMMENCES MONDAY. “ Scaramouche,” the great Rafael Sabatini story produced bv Metro and released through Paramount, will have its initial presentation in Christchurch at the Greater Crystal Palace, commencing on Monday next. Sabatini is perhaps the most popular author of the day, and “ Scaramouche ” is certainly his greatest work. It will be recalled that this story won the £2500 prize last year as the best story to be produced as a motion picture. Rex Ingram, the man who made “The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse,” has once again proved himself a master craftsman in the art of screen production. With a vivid hand he has depicted the glory of old Versailles, the pomp of the royalty of the times, the arrogance of the court of King Louis XVI., the sinister rumblings of coming revolt, and the conflagration which was the reddest revolution in the history of the world. A page from the history of France has been laid bare. All the characters that loom up in recall of this disastrous .period have been cast. Dan ton, the pock-marked orator and champion of the people. King Louis XVI., Marie Antoinette. Napoleon Bonaparte, Robespierre and Marat, they are all here. Magnificent and awe-inspiring is the. only description of the scenes of the Revolution. The scenes in the National Assembly, when the destinv of France was being decided, have all been carried o\it with great effect. Those who have read “ Scaramouche ” will agree that Ramon Novarro has been excellently cast in the title role, while Alice Terry as Aline and Lewis Stone as the Marquis have all been excellently chosen. There is a cast of ten thousand players

in the scenes depicting the revolution. \o expense has been spared in making “ Scaramouche ” just what it is claimed to be, the greatest story of the French Revolution that has ever come to the screen. STEREOSCOPICKS. Stereoscopicks, the new screen novelty, known as the Third Dimension wonder, will also be presented in conjunction with “Scaramouche.” This novelty is probably the greatest that has been evolved since the inception of the • movie. The figures in these pictures actually step off the screen right out over the heads of the audience. This screen novelty has been made possible by an invention of one of the leading figures in the world of science to-day. To view these pictures it is necessary to procure a special pair of coloured glasses, which will be distributed free to patrons at the theatre door.
