VOLAIRE FIGHTS CASEY; THEATRE ROYAL TO-NIGHT

The professional contest which will be staged at the Theatre Royal to-night by the Christchurch Sports Club promises to be the greatest boxing match that has been seen in Christchurch. That the meeting of Casey v. Volaire is expected to be good is apparent by the number of boxing supporters who are arriving from all parts of New Zealand to witness this contest. Th«i Frenchman, Eugene Volaire. is very popular in New Zealand, and his very fine displays in this town against Frank O'Neill from the West Coast, whom he knocked

out in the sixth round, and T-es Murray, the present New Zealand lightweight champion, who received the decision after a hard, gruelling fifteen rounds, are not forgotten. Volaire is reported by boxing critics to be even better now than when he was last seen in action in this city. Volaire has a decision over Casey on points in -i twenty rounds contest held at Brisbane last year, but Casey is very confident that he will turn the tables in to-night’s contest. Casey recently fought Purdy, of Auckland, fifteen rounds, and Purdy won by the narrowest of margins. That this contest was one of the finest ever seen in Auckland, and pleased the public so well, is evidenced by the Northern Boxing Association endeavouring to put t’&sey on again In that town. Casey also fought the present New Zealand middle-weight champion. T-aohie M'L*oi - »ld (who beat Eddie Parker in Christchurch a few months sgov. in a grueling contest, the result being a draw. Casey is an aggressive boxer, and a Strong two-handed puncher. Tic knocked out in the first round Ernie Klee (the English light-weight champion and holder of the Eonsdele Belt! at the National Sporting Club, London.
