BETTY TO UPHOLD CANTERBURY IN SANDERS CUP RACE.

The RedclifFfi yacht Betty will represent Canterbury 'in the Sanders Cud contest which is to be held at Dunedin next month. This decision was arrived at at a meeting of the Canterbury Yachting Association which was held at Lyttelton last evening. Mr A. T. Round nresided. and there were also present—Messrs J. T. M'CJoll. C. J. Treleaven and T. L. Robertson (Redcliffs). and Messrs A. K. Smith. G. Whitford, A. Henderson and M. Smith (Lyttelton). Reporters were not admitted to the meeting, it being stated that the business to he done would be transacted iu committee. It is understood that the meeting held an inquiry into the fouling of a yacht in one of the teats. The principal business was in regard to the selection of the Canterbury representative at the Sanders Cup contests. It had been stated in yachting circles that Betty did not comply with the required measurements. At the conclusion of the meeting, which lasted three hours, the chairman said that Betty had been selected to represent the province, and that her owner. Mr D. Andrews. had been selected as helmsman, he to select his own crew subject to the approval of the association. Speaking In respect to the measurements of Betty prior to the meeting, the chairman said that it untrue to say that Betty was nearly two inches out in her bow measurements. The boat was not an inch out. Should your club or any member of your club contemplate building a boat to compete in the contest, the boat, tfhile under course of construction, must he measured by the association’s official measurers, who, having satisfied themselvpß that tiio boat is correct, will give a certificate of correctness.,’'
