CONSTABLE ASKS : “ WHO IS ON THIS BEAT?”
“Well, mister, I want to tell you that the constable was nasty to me,” said a young by-law offender who appeared before Mr H. A. Young, S.M., at the Magistrate’s Court this morning. “What happened?” asked the Magistrate. “When he stopped me I told him to look after the chap who also had an electric torch for a light. He asked who was on the beat, me or him. Then he told me to shut my mouth or he would shut it for me. That was all.” The substitution of torch for lamp cost the youth seven shillings.
