BRIGHT WEATHER ATTRACTS TRIPPERS.
LARGE NUMBERS ON THE TRAINS. The bright, sunny weather that followed yesterday’s rain induced many citizens to take advantage of the Railway Department's excursions today. The principal holiday trains left the Christchurch station with the following passengers:— For Ashburton . . .1124 For Otira .... 419 For Timaru .... 262 Two trains took the Otira excursionists. The first one was filled by the time it reached Rolleston, and the second before it reached Springfield. Two trains were required to take passengers to Ashburton. Both were packed, and their loads were the heaviest taken to Ashburton on Boxing Day. There was light booking to Lyttelton.
