Miss E. M’Diarmid and Miss Madge Schedel have left for a visit to the Dunedin Exhibition. Mr and Mrs Len M’Oracken, of Nelson, -who motored to Christchurch last week, have left for Dunedin. Mr and Mrs Kerslake and Miss Lily Kerslake have gone to Dunedin for the holidays. Miss Judy Turnbull has left Christchurch on a visit to Mrs A. W. Wright, Wai-iti Road, Timaru. Mr and Mrs Ewart Bates, St Albans, arc spending a few days with Mrs A. Gardiner, Purau. Captain Euan Dickson and Mrs Dickson. of Auckland, are at present in Christchurch. Misses M. G. Denize and E. Katz, of Auckland, are among yesterday’s arrivals at the United Service Hotel. Mrs H. G. Warburton, of Wellington, is visiting her mother, Mrs J. Hardsell, North Lin wood. Miss Cherry Smith is spending a short holiday at “ The Lodge,” Hanmer Springs. Mr and Mrs D. Cox, Heaton Street, have left for a holiday visit to the West CoastDr and Mrs A. Paterson, Armagh Street, are spending the holidays at Hanmer Springs. Mrs A. Bourn and Miss Judy Bourn, are spending the Christmas holidays in. Timaru. Mr and Mrs Percy Storey, Christchurch, are at the Empire Hotel, Timaru. Madame Elsa Stralia. the Australian prima donna, arrived in Christchurch yesterday, and is a guest at the United Service Hotel. Mr and Mrs L. W. Ballan, Cambridge Terrace, left by motor on Thursday for Timaru, where they will spend their Christmas holidays. Mr and Mrs Wallace Rowe (Wellington) and their daughter are spending Christmas holidays in Christchurch, on their way to visit Dunedin Exhibition. Mrs Carston, Walpole Street, and her two children aro visiting Wellington, where they are guests of Mrs Turner, Ngaio. Miss Peggy Greening has gone to Dunedin and intends spending a few weeks in Timaru before returning to Christchurch. Mr and Mrs Hugh M’Swigan, Leicester Street, left by Wednesday night s ferry steamer en route for a brief holiday in Auckland. The Misses Mabel and Louise Loversidge and Miss Olive Rouikl left for Timaru on Thursday, where they will be the guests of Mrs Frank Brown. Miss Alma Banks, of the Templeton school staff, and Miss Doris Hassall, of Elmwood, have left for Hanmer Springs, where they will spend their school vacation. Miss Eileen Hughes, Miss Winifred Talbot, and Master Alex Hughes, left on Thursday for the West Coast, where they intend spending the Christmas holidays with Mr and Mrs I. Brown, Hokitika. Miss A. Feay left Christchurch on Wednesday by car en route to Mount Cook, where she will sj»end a few days before joining Mr and Mrs Feay, iu Dunedin. Mrs A. R. Murdoch, who had been spending a few days in Christchurch, returned to the North Island on Tuesday evening, accompanied by her daughters, Misses Lynda and Nancy "Watson, and Master Keith Watson. Grigor, Palmerston North. • The Christinas party given by the Kirwee branch of the Plunket Societ} 7 , in the A. and P. Hall on Tuesday last, was very successful. The day was beautifully fine, and a large number of children, their parents and friends, were present. Miss Myers, of Christchurch, has given dancing lessons to a number of children in Kirwee, and they, with four of her Christchurch pupils, gave several i dances. One of her Kirwee pupils presented Miss Myers with a bouquet, and each of the visiting pupils with a box of chocolates. Nearly one hundred children sat down to the tea table, which was decorated with sweet peas, and laden with good things. A mat, given as a prize for a competition, was won by A. Robertson. Mrs Arthur Stewart i supplied the music for the dancing. Mr and Mrs Hughes gave an enjoyable gift evening at their residence, Alexandra Street, in honour of Miss Dorothy Wicks, who was married recently. Hughes. Several competitions were held, the winners being:—Mrs F. Reeves, Miss J. Dickson and Mr J. Wicks. B. Postgate, Napland Street, SumRecently a pleasant little function took place at bliss Devereux-Jones's Kindergarten School, Puriri Street, the occasion being the annual break-up. After the first item little Joan Dew and Bruce Garth presented their teacher with a dainty bouquet. Time passed quickly with songs, dancing and recitations, which were much appreciated by those present. Later Enid Rowe and Dorothy Simpson, on behalf of their little class-mates, made a presentation of a xylonite mirror, brush and comb to Miss Devereux-Jones, who feelingly responded. This happy function was brought to a close by the singing of “ God Save the King.”
