Several adjacent buildings and several private properties also .suffered. The damage, runs into several thousands. * * * * LONDON. November 18. In the House of Commons, the Eight Hon A\ . C. Bridgeman (First Lord of (he Admiralty) said that, the total expenditure on the Singapore base so far was £ll i .(X)O. No definite money had buen offered by ot her parts of t ho Empire. except L'250.000 from Hong kong, which was being drawn upon as required. The Straits Settlements bought the land for £146,000.
