DEATH SENTENCE CARRIED OUT IN INDIAN MURDER CASE

Two accused in the Baula case have been executed at Bombay. The third accused, who was sentenced to death, is mentally deranged and is confined to an asylum. Nine persons were placed on trial in connection with the mysterious crime (the nautch girl affair) at Malabar Hill, the fashionable suburb of Bombay, the night of January 12 last. There were originally ten prisoners. The tenth had turned King’s evidence. The nine accused were all from Indore, and included:- - Shafi Ahmed Risaldar (troop leader) of Indore Mounted Police. Sham Rao Dighe, Captain of Indore Air Force. Syed Mahomed. Sub-Inspector of Inti orb Police. Karamat Kham, Pay Sergeant of Indore Imperial Lancers. Anand Rao Phanse, Adjutant-Gene-ral of Indore State Forces. They were charged with conspiring to kidnap from British India Muni tax Begum, when slid was a young girl, and attempting to kidnap her on January 12 last, in furtherance c>£ which they murdered Abdul Baula, a wealthy Bombay merchant, attempted to murder a British officer. Lieutenant Saegcrt (who went to the rescue) and Mr Mathew. Baida's manager, and did grievously hurt Mumtaz Begum. Four were sentenced to transportation for life, and two were acquitted.
