SWIMMING.
NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL. The council of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association met last evening, Mr \V. 11. Benson presiding. There were also present—Messrs F. (J. Dunn (•South Canterbury), J. Ja,ckf»on (Hawke's Tiny). C. Bryant (W'a.ngamii). D. Coulter (Canterbury), A. M'Donald (Westland), A. 11. Jacobson (Manawat.il), J. It. Buchanan (Nelson). If. Invest am (Ashburton,, ami B. O'Neill (^Wellington;. The Canterbury Centre wrote inquiring when record, certificates would bo available. It was decided, after some discussion, to communicate with tbe various centres expressing the opinion of th* council that Hie idea of printing the certificates on vellum or parchment would have to be abandoned on account of the cost involved. The programme for the next, New Zealand championships, as drawn up by the Hawke’s Bay Centre, was approved The Royal. Life Having Society wrote stating that it would 110 longer he pos sublc for the society to provide the cost of the championship medals for the breast-stroke events. The letter was laccived. The Auckland Centre wrote requesting that the council should invite a team of Australian swimmers to tour the Dominion in the coming season, or. alt.erna.ti.vely, that the swimmers should be invited to visit Auckland. 'Che chairman Raid that Auckland had evidently overlooked the fact that Invitations had already beer, issued to Australian swimmers, bin, without result. It. was decided that tbe Auckla-nd Centre should be written to pointing out what had been done in thl« respect, and asking for suggestions as to any further swimmers to whom invitations should lie extended. An application from the Wavevlc-* Club for affiliation was referred to the Affiliation Committee. _ M’he secretary of the South Auckland Centre wrote stating that if the rule* were strictly applied to clubs in that centre it, would be impossible Tor them to carry on. Tt was derided that in new of the difficulties that, had been encountered by clubs in this centre that the fees due for the past two seasons be remitted. A draft annual report and balancesheet were presented and approved.
