(Received November 20, 9.5 a.m.) JERUSALEM, November 19. The French are rushing troops and gunboats to Sidon and Tyre, which are in imminent danger of capture. They arrested insurgent agents who were endeavouring to persuade the population of Lebanon to rebel. Fighting has broken out outside Damascus and also at Mctallah, five miles from the Palestine border. LONDON, November 19. The Paris correspondent of the “ Daily Mail ” says M. de Jouvenel is going to London to-day to discuss with Mr Chamberlain the Near East situation. He says that there are three sorts of war in Syria:—(1) Against France. (2) A religious feud between the Lebanons and Syrians. (3) A civil war. The fcour.trv is suffering through intrigues and by gunshot. The greatest need is all-round collaboration in the spirit of the League of Nations. M. de Jouvenel added: “M. Painleve has promised me all the troops necessary to make my task successful.” PARIS, November 19. General Sarrail, reporting to the Chamber’s Foreign Affairs and Army Committees, paid a tribute to the assistance of the Hritish Foreign Office and War Office officials, but he bitterly complained regarding the other British representatives’ intervention and biased messages which, he said, caused the panic.
