CURB OX SPECULATION IX AMERICA. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Aus. and X.Z. Cable Association. CReccviod November IP, 10 a.m.) XEW YORK. November IS. The rerent unprecedented speculations on the stock market here, which had a similar influence on the markets in other American cities, appear to have induced the authorities to take active measures I<> retard Hie inflation of business generally, especially on stock exoha nges. The Federal Reserve Bank, through the utterances of the various directors of its several branches, lias intimated that the excessive optimism or speculative enthusiasm of the general public must be curbed through the limitation of funds. The Now York Federal Reserve Bank is expected to shortly follow the lend of both Boston and Cleveland branches, which recently increased the discount rate from 3.$ per cent to 4 per cent. There are no*w only three - of the twelve branches whose rate has not been raised, clearly for the purpose of keeping the stock markets within bounds.
