A dozen horses faced the barrier for the Hunters’ Hurdle Handicap, Lady Comet being a warm favourite, with j Woden and Silta following, but there was little difference between the 'next | four. The lavounte gave her backers a good run but had to play second fiddle to My Hobby, a gelding by Autumj num —Margerine. in J. 11. Jefferd j stable, who returned a dividend just j under double figures. Lady Comet's J backers lost a fair share of their stake. ! The whole of the seven acceptors for j the Apley Hack Hurdles started. Gene- ! ral Carrington was favourite for the j third time during the week* and h-j registered his third successive win. Molyneux and Tlaligan were second and third fancies and Birka fourth choice The race finished nearly as was expected, for General Carrington won somewhat cleverly, jumping in good style and handling the heavy going well. Haligan was second and Birka third. There were nine runners for the Hack iSeurrv and Olympic was most fancied. Master Beckwith. Nine o’ Spades and Serenade all being well backed. Olympic looked a winner in the straight, but Nine o’ Spades came with a great run and gained a good , victory. A nice looking • three-yeai old gelding, named Waitnumaha. who is not ready yet, filled third position . j and is worth watching. Serenade was fourth. Half a dozen made up tho field fo> - • the Kawera Handicap and Tuahine was ■ looked upon as the best of good things though there was plenty of money i'o Jubilee and also for Tari. Tari wa the early leader but Tuahine, Battl Knight and Strategy all headed hii in the straight and a good finish saw 1 Tuahine win by a length from Battl Knight, who was only a head in fron of Strategy. Luke was most in favour of the eleven runners for the Hawke's Bav Hunt Cup Steeplechase, Kaika and Birkenella receiving most support of the others. Master Oriflammc. Silta. Kaika. Birkcn ella and Curve all ran off, while Khylicr Pass and Taimmu fell. Aotea Roa and Luke collided and fell, leaving onl> Ethiopian and Kovno on their feet. They finished the remainder of the journey by themselves, .Ethiopian winning by ten lengths from Kovno. Khvber Pass was remounted and finished third, twenty lengths further back. The success of two of Mr A. B. Williams s team, My Hobby and Tuahine caused a run on Gauntlet for the Horonui Hack Handicap and he finislied with £3 more on him than the second favourite. The Strand. The race v.a.- between the pair, but Hoy Reed’s

I horsemanship get Gauntlet home first by a neck, after a slashing finis’-*. Killoch was third. For the last race, the Soutra Hunters’ Flat Handicap, the public would have nothing hut Kendal, who started a hot favourite. Tawehi was second choice but lie was not suited by the going and. moreover, looked big. Lady Comet was third fancy. Kendal was first away and led throughout, but was challenged in the straight by Tikania, a five-year-old brown mare hr to have Kendal's measure when the latter, shifting under pressure, bored out and bumped Tikama, causing him to drop back, and Kendal, vigorously ridden, won bv half a length. An enquiry into tlie interference resulted in the placings being reversed, Tikanie being placed first. Feudal second and Rebuff . third.
