Messrs William Taylor (Dunedin). J. V. Taylor (Sydney), and S. Baker arrived from the north this morning and are staying at Warner’s Hotel. Messrs E. R. Fuller, J. Winter, B. VnnstnA'crn, Norman Heath (Wellington). G. L. Johnston (Dunedin), and Arnold Ely (Auckland) are recent arrivals at the United Service Hotel. An Auckland telegram announces the death of Mr Charles Langsford, at the age of ninety-nine. lie arrived in New Zealand seventy-five years ago with a detachment of Royal Engineers. Mr D. R. Thomson, late of tho staffs of the Chief Postmaster and District Telegraph Engineer in this city, has received word of his promotion to the position of auditor, G.F.0., Wellington . Air W. .T. Bennett, of the Highcliff School. Otago, has been appointed headmaster of the Manlifa School, Apia, Samoa. Ho expects to leave Auckland on July JB. Mr Walter Hill, chairman of the Christchurch Drainage Board. who is visiting the Old Country, is expected back in Christchurch in November. Air J. H. Blackwell was re-elected president of the Canterbury Progress League at tho annual meeting yesterday. Mr B. Hampton, president of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants. accompanied by Mr M. J. Mack, general secretary of the same organisation, will visit Christchurch on Sundav, July 5, for the purpose of meeting members of the local branches. An Indian prince, ATaknra.j Rana Sir Bhawani Singh Bahadur, of Thalawar. will arrive from Sydney by the A ora r.gi on July 0 and will tour the Dominion as the guest of tlie GoAernmem. From Auckland he will proceed to .Rotorua, then to Hamilton, Bunkum State Farm, Waitomo Caves, Tc Kuiti and Wellington. Then ho av il 1 go to Christchurch, Dunedin and possibly Queenstown. He will leave Wellington toward the end of July for the United States.
