VALEDICTORY.

FAREWELL TO MR H. HABERFIELD. A presentation and luncheon were given to-day in Ballantyne’s tearooms to Mr I>. Haber field, on the occasion ot his severing bis connection Avith the Ncav Zealand Farmers’ Co-operative Association after many years’ service. There was a large attendance, over which Mr H. F. Stevens presided. -Mr Stevens, in proposing Mr Tfabcrficld’s health, said that he had known their guest for many years. As a boy ho had played lire mail, and as a man be had dyne the same. He hoped that this little function would always remind him of tho esteem in Avhich lie was held. Mr J. Mason, in speaking to the toast, said that in all the time during "bicli ho had come in contact Avith their guest he had always found that lie was a. man to take one’s troubles to. His criticism was nhvavs helpful. Ho wished Mr Haberfiehl all success iii liis new sphere. Mr Nat Woods said that their guest had earned the name of “Fa” in business circles, and that alone was sufficient to confer distinction upon any man. He had been a wonderful man for Ncav Zealand manufacturers. Next to the local manufacturers, ho favoured the English. Mr Ilaberfiold was an Imperialist of a high order. Mr Woods then presented Air Haberfiehl Avith a Ncav Zealand-made rug. and a silver brush and comb in a leather case for Airs Ha her field. Mr IJaberfield, in returning thanks, said lie had ahvays tried to play the man. and lie Imped he had succeeded. (Applause.) All he. had done was to do his fluty, play the game, and help lame, dogs over stiles. The health of tho chairman was proposed by Mr J. Thomas. The meeting closed Avith the singing of “ Auld Lang Svne.”
